Observation - what's that?

What is monitoring? This is a research method that is used in psychology for the organized and purposeful perception and the study of any object.Used where the intervention of the observer can disrupt the interaction between the individual and the environment. This method is especially needed when you need to get a full picture of what is happening and understand human behavior.

What is monitoring?

Observation - a specially organized and anchored the perception of an object. It can be direct and indirect, internal and external, and the inclusion of non-inclusion, indirect and direct, selective and continuous laboratory and field.

By systematic it is divided into:

1. unsystematic observation - a method that creates a general picture of the behavior of a group of people or an individual under certain conditions. This is not intended to fix the investigative causality and rigorous description of the formation of phenomena.

2. systematic , which is conducted on a strictly defined plan. The researcher thus detects behaviors and environmental conditions.

In fixed object it is divided into:

1. Selective observation - is the way in which the observer records only some of the parameters of behavior.

2. Solid , in which the researcher records all behaviors without exception.

The form of observation are distinguished:

1. conscious observation - is the way in which the observed person knows that he is being watched. The observed, as a rule, is aware of the research objectives. But there are cases where the object of observation are reported decoys. This is done because of the ethical concerns regarding the conclusions obtained.

Disadvantages conscious type of surveillance: the psychological impact of the observer to the object, which is why sometimes it is necessary to make a few observations on the subject.

Features observer can influence the behavior and actions of the object that the rash statement can greatly change the results;observed, in turn, may be due to some psychological reasons to give false steps for their normal, or hesitate to give free rein to their emotions;this observation can not be carried out in everyday life.

2. inner unconscious observation - it is a way in which there is nothing about the people that they are under surveillance. When the researcher becomes part of the surveillance system. An example is the situation where the psychologist is being introduced to a group of hooligans and announces his intentions.

This form of monitoring is suitable for the qualitative study of social behavior of small groups. The presence of the observer becomes a natural, that does not affect the results of the study.

unconscious observation Disadvantages: difficulty in obtaining results;researcher can be drawn into a conflict of values.

Features investigated object does not know that he was being watched;Researcher receives a lot of information about the observed.

3. External unconscious observation - is the way in which the investigated object does not know anything about the observation and the observer carries out its work without direct contact with the object. This method is convenient because it does not restrict the observer and the observed behavior provokes their false steps.
